FATCA Seminar in La Cuidad 2

The Warden for the Southern Azuero tells me the IRS is coming to town.  They’re going to present a seminar that any US citizen living here in Panama probably shouldn’t miss.  It will be about the FATCA – the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act.  Since the application of this law is rumored to be draconian (that means really harsh), anyone who has $10 in a “keep it handy” account down here is not on a “need-to-know” basis, but on a “you-better-know” basis, right along with the dudes who have $100,000+ in theirs.

Your $10 has been promoted to the big time.

From the tales and twittering I’ve read on the net, it’s one strike and your’re out, so may I  forthwith provide you with an invite to the party?  Although the note from the Embassy says that you have to register by January 10 in order to attend, I bet they’d let you register late.  However, that’s not a bet I’d want to make, me.

This should be Interesting. I’ve heard the ‘Horror Stories’ and Hope that they are Not True. Please Report back in your usual Informative learned fashion. This has caused (or so reported) a banking debacle for Americans in Panama. THANKS
